# Configuring deployment image

> Pre-installed tools and versions in the env zero deployment agent base image, built on alpine, with guidance on checking versions using ad hoc tasks.

<Warning>
  Tool versions

  env zero updates tool versions periodically for security or end-of-life (EOL) reasons. Customers will be notified before any update with **breaking changes**.

  To check the current version of any tool, run an [ad hoc task](/guides/admin-guide/environments/ad-hoc-tasks) with the relevant command, for example:

  ```bash theme={null}
  tool-name --version
  ```
</Warning>

## The base image

The deployment agent is based on `node:22.16.0-alpine3.20`.

<Info>
  If you are using a [self-hosted agent](/guides/admin-guide/self-hosted-kubernetes-agent/overview), you can bring your own Docker image by extending env zero's default image. See [Extending the deployment image](/guides/admin-guide/self-hosted-kubernetes-agent/extending-deployment-image).
</Info>

## Next steps

* [Extending the deployment image](/guides/admin-guide/self-hosted-kubernetes-agent/extending-deployment-image) - Add tools to the base image with a custom Dockerfile.
* [Change user ID](/guides/admin-guide/self-hosted-kubernetes-agent/using-a-custom-image-in-an-agent/change-user-id) - Modify the user ID in a custom agent image.
* [Custom/optional configuration](/guides/admin-guide/self-hosted-kubernetes-agent/custom-optional-configuration) - Configure Helm values for the self-hosted agent.
